Creedy

Creedy Class is taught by Mrs Kersey on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and by Mrs Heathershaw on Thursdays and Fridays. They are supported by Miss Wood and Mrs Jones.

Creedy Class is made up of Reception and Year 1 children. The children enjoy learning through a wide range of engaging activities, including play-based learning, practical experiences and the introduction of more formal written work as they progress through the class.

Reading is at the heart of everything we do in Creedy Class. Our priority is helping children learn to read confidently while developing a lifelong love of books. Throughout the week, children take part in a variety of activities that promote both reading skills and reading for pleasure, including daily phonics sessions, guided reading, shared reading and class discussions around books. We also enjoy paired reading with older pupils and take part in whole-school reading sessions, where everyone in the school stops to enjoy a book together.

At Sandford School, we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised systematic synthetic phonics programme. As part of this approach, children read in small groups three times each week, developing their fluency, prosody and comprehension skills. Alongside this, we visit the school library every week to choose a new book to enjoy at home. Our team of librarians helps us discover a wide variety of authors, genres and stories, encouraging children to develop a rich and varied reading diet.

We are committed to providing a nurturing, stimulating and supportive environment where every child feels valued, develops confidence and is encouraged to become an enthusiastic and independent learner.
