Cheriton Fitzpaine
Welcome to Cheriton Fitzpaine Primary School!
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about our wonderful school.
Our small village school is a valued part of the rural community, nestled on the edge of Cheriton Fitzpaine, less than 15 minutes from the nearby market town of Crediton. We enjoy working closely with the other federation schools; this offers us the benefits of a small school and also opportunities of learning together in a larger learning group. We have 4 mixed age classes in school, taking children from 2-11 years of age. Our purpose-built Early Years Foundation Stage classroom offers fantastic purposeful provision for our youngest pupils. We also offer wide range of after school clubs, which are led by school staff and external providers. These range from multi-sports, to animation, to illustration, to wellbeing. We also pride ourselves in promoting the arts and have our own school band.
At Cheriton, we pride ourselves in providing a rich and stimulating learning environment. We moved into our new school building in 2010, and are fortunate to have a spacious, modern building, with plenty of outside space, including undercover teaching spaces, a MUGA (multi-use games area), a huge field, small allotment and ‘story mountain’. We make the most of our idyllic school grounds as often as we can.
Curiosity, excitement and a thirst for learning are paramount to the teaching and learning in school. As a school, we aim to develop independence, confidence and self-esteem in all we do and support pupils in developing a growth-mindset approach to their learning. Our curriculum is engaging and creative, making links between subjects and building on the children’s own experiences. A sense of belonging and community is key, so we incorporate this into all areas of school life, while opening up the children’s knowledge of the world in which they live. We hope that this will serve them well as they take the next step in their education, and become active global citizens, who are inspired to discover and succeed in lifelong learning.
Our school is a very special place where children and staff are happy to be and make good progress in a caring and exciting working environment. As a small school, positive relationships between all pupils and staff are developed and valued, and we enjoy working regularly in our House Teams. Likewise, we value close working relationships with parents and carers and know that this link between school and home is incredibly important. We hold regular open afternoons where parents and carers are invited in to share their children’s learning, and love having an audience to share and celebrate our musical and theatrical performances.
